About Country Chic

It’s more than 20 years since the term ‘Shabby Chic’ became a byword for stylish interiors on a budget. The charm of faded paint finishes and vintage fabrics are a key feature of the style.

Over the past two decades what many thought was a fad has become a classic style that suites both contemporary and traditional homes.

I started this Yorkshire based ‘shabby chic’ specialist business in 2001. My background is in antique textiles and period costume. I had a small shop in the lovely Montpelier Quarters in Harrogate which became known for it’s eclectic mix of decorative accessories. I enjoyed looking for unusual items of furniture which I could use to display my accessories on and of course every-one wanted to buy them.
As the demand grew and my business expanded I relocated to new premises out of town which now forms a spacious showroom offering an abundance of beautifully restored furniture from rustic tables to elegant armoires and a much needed workshop for the furniture restoration.

What I really love about this business is that I’m recycling and giving old, unwanted pieces of furniture a new lease of life. It’s very satisfying to see something transformed and I enjoy the challenge.
I love to pick up pieces with interesting carving or relief detailing which come up really fabulous when painted.

Buying furniture in the condition I do means I can pick it up at reasonable prices and although it takes many hours of tlc to get them in saleable condition I can pass those prices on to customers. Our ready painted prices start from £45 for a pretty bedroom chair, £145 a chest of drawers, £250 a wardrobe, and £175 for a farmhouse table.

Our bespoke painting service has proved very popular with customers wanting their existing furniture updating.

Clients with properties to let and wishing to furnish their premises on a budget will find stylish pieces without compromising on quality.
I have furnished many guest houses and small hotels including properties in France.

As the founder of Country Chic Fairs which started in 2002 I have been so thrilled to see them grow in popularity and located at such  lovely venues they are a honey-pot for those with a passion for ‘shabby chic’.
